Douar Samra is truly part of Tamatert village located in the Imlil valley with breathtaking views.
Lovely restaured by Jacqueline, Douar Samra is set in a beautiful garden full of flowers and vegetables and shaded by fruit and nut trees. From the three sunny terraces there are magnificent mountain views. In the garden there are some quiet corners to relaxing. The dining room has a big open fireplace, a cosy place to chill out. The Atlas Moutains, just 64 kms from Marrakech, are dominated by Jbel Toubkal at 4167m the highest peak in North Africa. It is home to the Aït Mizane berbers who live in several villages dotted around the base of the north side of the Toubkal massif.
Imlil (1740m) is the road head and most important center in the Aït Mizane Valley. Scattered around are numerous villages made of red-earth buildings; M'zik, Acheim, Tagardit, Lalla Imitaza, Targa Imoula, Arhene, Armed, Aït Souza and Tamatert.
Tamatert (2000m) is the highest of these villages and is 2 kms from Imlil. The village lives off its traditional agriculture. Green terraced fields with walnut, cherry and apple trees surround the village. The Berbers here are traditional and hospitable. Their lives are regulated by the agricultural calendar and ar ponctuated by traditional festivals that celebrate religious days and the passing of the seasons.
